Psychotherapy
As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Ybarra uses a strength-based, developmental approach, helping the client to identify and use their personal strengths and qualities to help overcome their difficulties in a manner that can be adaptively used as life continues to change. Personal strengths include personality traits, life experiences, race/culture, relationships, religious practice and spiritual beliefs.  He carries a small caseload of therapy clients at a time, but feel free to inquire about availability.

Child or Adolescent Psychotherapy:
In his Psychotherapy work with children and teens, Dr. Ybarra helps the young client and their family to help foster healthy development despite present crises or challenges. Parents of clients are required to be open to changing their own behavior to aid their child's or adolescent's development. Stress management, relaxation training, planning skills and communication skills are common foundational skills taught along with specific addressment of the target problem. Dr. Ybarra is known for his ability to help children and teens negotiate through the difficulties of their parents' divorce or separation, as well as fostering co-operative parenting, using a cognitive-behavioral therapy structure.

Adult Psychotherapy:
Common issues presented by adult clients and addressed by psychotherapy include depression, mood stability, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma exposure, divorce or separation, career-work related stress, anger management, male identity development and enhanced personal growth.  His Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach requires active effort on the part of clients. Dr. Ybarra has assisted many adults via their EAP employee benefits in a non-judgmental cooperative manner.
